Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 3, 2026

1. Introduction

Navi ("we", "our", or "us") operates the Navi mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Service.

2. Information We Collect

Account Information

Navi requires an account. When you create one, we collect your email address and a securely hashed password.

Usage Data

We collect product usage data such as app opens, screens visited, countries, languages, and catalogue phrases viewed or played, favourites, offline downloads, account-flow events, plan and purchase-flow outcomes, quiz and pronunciation scores, diagnostic error categories and codes, app version, operating system, device type, and approximate country derived from your IP address. We do not send your email address, raw search queries, custom phrase text, speech transcripts, or local-language phrase text to our analytics provider. Activity before sign-in uses a random device identifier before sign-in; after you sign in, analytics activity may be associated with an opaque account identifier so we can understand use across sessions.

Purchase Information

If you buy a Trip Pass, subscribe to Navi Plus, or restore an eligible purchase, we store a record of your purchase status (product identifier, transaction identifier, platform, and date) to provide support and restore eligible purchases. Payment processing is handled entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play) — we do not collect or store your payment card details or billing information.

Custom Phrases and Pronunciation

When you ask Navi to translate a custom phrase, the English text and target language are sent through our server to Google Cloud Translation to return the translation. Saved custom phrases remain on your device. If you use pronunciation testing, Navi uses on-device speech recognition so microphone audio stays on your device and a transcript is returned locally to calculate a score.

Locally Stored Data

Favourites, recently viewed countries, offline phrase data, custom phrases, and travel quiz readiness scores are stored locally on your device. If you are signed in, eligible favourites and progress data may be synced to our servers to enable cross-device access.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and maintain the Service.
  • To sync your favourites and preferences across devices (if you have an account).
  • To verify and fulfil any current or previous in-app purchases.
  • To improve and optimise the app experience.
  • To communicate with you about updates or support requests.
  • To detect and prevent technical issues or abuse.

4. Data Sharing & Third Parties

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We use PostHog as a product analytics service to understand usage patterns and improve Navi. PostHog processes the usage and device data described above on our behalf.

We use Supabase for authentication and data storage. Supabase processes data in accordance with their privacy policy. We may also use Vercel for hosting.

We use Google Cloud Translation to process text that you submit through the custom phrase feature. Pronunciation testing uses on-device speech recognition on your device and does not send microphone audio to Navi.

In-app purchases are processed by Apple (App Store) and Google (Google Play). We receive only a transaction confirmation and product identifier — not your payment details. Please refer to Apple's and Google's respective privacy policies for how they handle payment data.

5. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), secure password hashing, and access controls. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove your account data from our application database within 30 days. Analytics data is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for product analysis, security, and legal obligations, after which it is deleted or aggregated.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Request correction or deletion of your personal data.
  • Withdraw consent for data processing at any time.
  • Request a copy of your data in a portable format.
  • Object to the processing of your personal data.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at the address provided in the Contact section below.

8. Children's Privacy

Our Service is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected such information, we will take steps to delete it promptly.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

10. Contact

If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or wish to exercise your data rights, please contact us via our Support page.
